Why should I marshal ?

Marshalling is a rewarding experience as you often get the chance to go to places that spectators  cannot go (i.e. military bases) or remote parts of a forestry stage that would take spectators ages to hike to, it make you feel more involved in the event rather than just a spectator and you can give something back to the sport in terms of your resource.

Marshals are required in significant numbers to keep stages running safely - a minimum of 2 marshals per post are needed plus radio crews at set locations, not forgetting start and finish crews and spectator area control, these all soak up the manpower. There seems to be a general decline in the number of marshals on events, unfortunately leading to events running with less than the optimum number of marshals, possibly compromising safety.

I would encourage every competitor to marshal on 2 events per year (minimum) to give something back to the sport, otherwise the dwindling pool we now have will compromise both them and their cars safety, competitors entrust their safety to the marshals on stage.

How would you feel as a competitor, if you went off and there was not enough marshals on the stage, meaning no one was there to help.!!!
