Craven
Motor Club is a long established Motor Club based in Berkshire, and in
2004 we celebrated our 50th year in motorsport! For several
years Craven Motor Club have won the prestigious Cotswold Motor Sports Group's and ACSMC "Best
Rally award" for our Longcross Stage Rally. This is a great honour
and one of which we are very proud.
Rallying is the branch of motor sport in which the majority
of our members
participate. However this does not preclude others from competing
in Karting, Rallycross, Sprints, Hillclimbs, PCT's, Circuit Racing and
many more.Even if
you do not wish to compete, there are many other skills required to run
an event. There is always the need for marshals and qualified safety radio
crews; getting your hands dirty by servicing, medical aid or sponsoring
an event.
Did you
know that there is a rally or sprint etc, almost every weekend of the
year? Craven supply marshals, radio crews and officials to help run Wales
Rally GB as well as other events all year round up and down the country,
in all weathers.
Anyone
wishing to learn more can team up with an experienced member of the Club
and learn the intricacies of the job. Visit our Contacts
page to find out who they are.
"Back-room"
people are always required to help with the administration aspects of
running an event. There are never enough of these! The club
has over 150 members who take an active part in the running events and
competing and we have a strong core of members who regularly compete in
both modern and historic events, both at home and abroad
One
of the most popular and inexpensive forms of motorsport are the Navigational
Scatters, which are held approximately every 7-8 weeks. They start and
finish at our Club House near Sonning.Once
a year we run a grass autotest in September called the 'Spinning Wheel'
where any car and driver can compete. As car control and not speed are
of the essence, it always shows those who can really drive! This is very
much a social event and, together with the annual dinner and other activities
held throughout the year, makes for a full and varied programme of events
for the Club members. Richard Burns won this event is his fathers car
in 1989, before he was legal to drive on the roads.Craven
Motor Club can boast of some well known 'names', both past and present,
including:Richard Burns- The 2001 World Rally Champion
and multiple Network Q Rally of Great Britain winner and British Rally
Champion, Steve Fleck, the Get Connected Tarmac Champion of 2003,Keith
Edwards, King of the Cotswolds Road Rally Champion, and LCAMC Rally Champion:
Ian Donaldson, Motoring News Champion; John Cross Belgium Rallycross Champion
to name but a few.
If you
have interest in any form of motorsport be it rallying, circuit racing
or just cars in general, then come down on a Wednesday Night where you
will be made very welcome.
